The MESSENGER spacecraft made a
flyby of Mercury on Monday, only the second spacecraft to do so (the other being
Mariner 10 in 1974-5). It will do two more flybys in October 2008 and September 2009 before going into orbit around
Mercury in March 2011. Cool.
